There are all kinds of silences and each of them means a different thing. There is the silence that comes with morning in a forest, and this is different from the silence of a sleeping city. There is silence after a rainstorm, and before a rainstorm, and these are not the same. There is the silence of emptiness, the silence of fear, the silence of doubt. There is silence that comes from unmovable objects. Like an old rusty rocking chair, or a stack of letters sitting on your nightstand. This kind of silence can speak. Its voice may be melancholy, but it is not always so; for the chair may have been left by a laughing grandfather or grandmother or the words from a letter that let you live in memories and feelings you have not felt for a while.
But my favorite silence of all. The silence in nature.
I've learned from a young age, that if you want to find peace and strength, it does not happen in noise and restlessness. And see how nature - the trees, flowers, and the grass all grow in silence. Notice how the stars, the moon and the sun all move in silence. I've realized we need silence in our lives in order to touch our souls and the only way to do it, is remove yourself from all the noise. Even if it means a drive with no radio on, locking yourself in your bedroom or high up on a mountain top. Silence is your friend and each of us
needs a little bit of silence every single day.
